Outline for RA/RD training (general guide)

  1. Get out your cell phone and goto settings > Cellular > Wi-Fi Calling > Turn it on
    • When you do not have this on you cannot get calls or text messages if the building you are in has poor cellular reception.
    • You can only enable this when you HAVE cellular reception so this is not an "I'll turn it on when I need it" situation
    • Some carriers do not allow this (most prepaid carriers).
    • This is available on iOS and Android but depending on the carrier you may have different hoops to go through.
    • You will need to provide an address for E911 purposes.  It's much worse if you cannot call 911 when you need to than if you provide the wrong address here.  The dispatchers will commonly confirm your address if you are able to speak.
  2. Network registration
  3. MFA Setup

    • Secure account
    • Hackers love to pretend to be IT but true IT will never ask you for your password or for an access code to keep your account active. It's just a scam to get into your account.
    • MFA uses internet, text message uses your cellular network.  If you don't have cellular you won't get the text message.
    • Microsoft Authenticator app
    • After installing the MFA app, to login to your email for the first time you will get a qr code and below that will be a link to setup the MFA app you've already installed. If you did not install the MFA app first you may need to start over.
    • Make life easier > Open authenticator > settings > Turn off App Lock
    • Apple iPhone users: Settings > App Store > Turn off Offload Unused Apps (so your iPhone doesn't accidentally remove the Authenticator app.
  4. Digital ID
  5. Helpdesk website
  6. Oilerprint
  7. Office install via email
  8. Gaming Network registration
    • https://helpdesk.findlay.edu/a/solutions/articles/5000630719
    • There is a special place to register devices that do not have a web browser and may have special networking needs like online multiplayer specifically for gaming consoles.
    • If your gaming device is wireless, you will need to ensure it is connected to ufindlay and NOT ufindlay-guest.
  9. OTC weekend
    • ITS will be open and available the Saturday and Sunday before classes start from 11am-2pm in the Shafer library.
