Mac users may now be prompted to sign in every time they connect to WiFi. While this is a useful security feature for public networks (like those in coffee shops/restaurants) it can create unnecessary disruptions on campus. Here are solutions for each Apple device you may have.
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Vision Pro
(Requires iOS 14, iPadOS 14, visionOS)
- Open the Settings app, then tap Wi-Fi.
- If you aren’t currently connected to the network, tap Edit in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- Tap the More Info (i) button next to the network name.
- Configure the setting:
- If using iOS 18, iPadOS 18, visionOS 2, or later, tap Private Wi-Fi Address > Rotating, then tap Fixed or Off.
- If using an earlier OS, turn Private Wi-Fi Address off.
- If Private Wi-Fi address is not present you are not affected.
Mac
(Requires MacOS Sequoia (15.x or later)
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Wi-Fi in the sidebar.
- Click the Details button (...) or More Info button next to the network name, then click Network Settings...
- From the menu next to Private Wi-Fi Address, choose Fixed or Off.
- If Private Wi-Fi address is not present you are not affected.
Apple Watch
(Requires watchOS 7 or later)
- Open the Settings app, then tap Wi-Fi.
- Tap the name of the network. If you aren’t currently connected to the network, swipe left on its name and tap the More Info button.
- Configure the setting:
- If using watchOS 11 or later, scroll down and tap fixed or Off.
- If using an earlier version of watchOS, turn Private Address off.
- If Private Wi-Fi address is not present you are not affected.
