While Teams meeting, you can access different functions from the meeting controls at the top of your screen. This will help you easily customize your view, participate with others, and more.

Meeting chat

To access the meeting chat, select Chat teams chat icon. From here, you can view and participate in the meeting group chat. To hide it, select Chat teams chat icon again.


To chat with individual participants, use the People option and hover over or click on the person's picture.  There, you can Send a quick message, or use the Chat teams chat icon button to open a Teams chat window with that person.



Alternatively, you can chat with others independently of the meeting window using the Teams app.


Show or hide all participants

If you'd like to see a list of everyone in a meeting—or a list of others invited but not currently in the meeting—select People People or Show Participants button.

The meeting participants will show on the right side of your screen. Above the list of participants, you can also invite someone to the meeting or share the meeting invite.

To hide the list, select People teams people icon again.


Note: For video tiles under 250 x 140 pixels, an attendee's full name will only appear on hover due to size limitations.


Hover over a person's name here to see More options ... including the ability to remove, mute/unmute, or make them a presenter/attendee.


Raise your hand

Raise your hand during a meeting to let others know you have something to share without interrupting the speaker. 


To raise or lower your hand:    Select Raise  raise hand icon.



Others will see that your hand is raised, and in which order it was raised, if others have their hands raised.


Express a reaction

React to something someone is saying during a meeting by choosing an emoji reaction.


To react in a meeting: 

  1. Select React Teams emoji icon for chat.
  2. Choose the emoji you want to express.


When you choose a reaction, the emoji will appear for a few seconds in the meeting window for participants to see.



Change your view

Change how you see other participants by selecting View Gallery view icon and choosing from different meeting views. See more or fewer participants at a time, join everyone in Together mode, and more.


Create a breakout room

If you're a meeting organizer or presenter who's been appointed a breakout rooms manager, you can select Rooms teams breakout room icon to create and assign people to breakout rooms.


If you have one of these roles, clicking Rooms teams breakout room icon will allow you to choose the number of rooms you'd like to create (up to 50) and how participants will be assigned to those rooms. Then click Create rooms.




Use Copilot

Select the Copilot  Copilot Icon icon for AI-powered meeting features. Prompt a meeting summary, to-do lists, and much more.


Add an app

If you're a meeting organizer or presenter, you can select Apps Square containing plus sign to search for and add an app for the meeting.  Example:  Polls


More actions

Select the 'More actions' More options button button to open a menu and access other actions you can take in the meeting.

Some popular options you'll see in the 'More actions' menu include 'Start recording,' 'Apply background effects', and 'Turn off incoming video'.  You can also update your meeting options here by selecting Settings > 'Meeting options'.


To turn your camera on:

  1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Camera teams show video icon to preview your video, change your background, and more.
  2. Select the Camera teams show video icon icon to turn it on.


To turn your camera off, select the Camera Video call button icon again.


Note: If you're attending a live event or public (open registration) webinar, your camera is turned off by default.

Mute or unmute your mic

If you're already muted in a meeting and you'd like to speak:

  1. Select the dropdown arrow next to Mic Muted microphone button to adjust your sound settings or choose a microphone to use.
  2. Select Mic  Muted microphone button to turn it on.

To mute your mic, select Mic again.


If you want to test your microphone, in the drop-down menu, you can unmute and check that your microphone is picking up audio.



Note: If you're attending a live event or public (open registration) webinar, your mic is turned off by default.

Share your screen

To share your screen or other content during a meeting:

  1. Select Share Share screen button.
  2. Choose to present your entire screen, a window, a PowerPoint file, or a whiteboard.

Leave or end a meeting

To leave a meeting, select Leave teams leave meeting icon. If you're the meeting presenter, you can also select the dropdown and choose End meeting. Only meeting presenters can end meetings.
