Studio is a video tool in Canvas that allows instructors to upload and link or embed a video in their course. Please follow these steps to upload videos to Studio.
- Log in to Canvas - https://canvas.findlay.edu
- Select Studio from the Global Navigation pane on the left.

- If it is the first time navigating to Studio, click the Authorize button.
- To store videos efficiently, you may want to create Collections (folders) to store videos in.
- Click the '+Collection' button to create a folder.
- If you wish to save videos in said Collection, click View on the Collection.
- Once you are in the location to store videos, click the Create button in the upper-right corner of this window and select 'Add Media'

- To add a video to the library, either drag and drop the video into this location or click the 'Browse Files' button.
- If you click the Browse File button, you then must navigate in the pop-up box to locate and select the video to upload.
- Once uploaded, the video will process and take some time before it is available to be viewed.
Linking/Embedding Studio Videos in a Course
You may link to or embed a video stored in Canvas Studio to any course location.
Modules
- Click the + in the upper right corner of a Module.
- From the drop-down, select External Tool.
- Locate and click Studio.
- This will show all videos available to be embedded.
- Click View on a Collection and/or click Select to choose a video to embed.
- Enable or disable the Basic (media display tabs) or Advanced (allow media to be downloaded) switch.
- Select Embed Media.
- Scroll down and edit the Page Name for what you would like that row of the Module to say.
- Click Add Item.
- This places the URL at the bottom of the Module, unpublished.
- When ready, publish this row by clicking the 'no' sign and changing it to a green checkmark.
Embed on a Page or RCE (Rich Content Editor) area
- In the RCE area, place your cursor where the video should be embedded.
- Once selected, click on the Tools drop-down menu and select the Apps icon.
- Select View All (or Studio if used previously), and select Studio in the list.
- Click View on a Collection and/or click Select to choose a video to embed.
- Enable or disable the Basic (media display tabs) or Advanced (allow media to be downloaded) switch.
- Select Embed Media.
- The video is now embedded in the RCE area.
- Select Save on this page when finished editing.
Embed in a Discusion Board Post/Reply
- Create a new thread or Reply in a Discussion Board Thread
- Place your cursor where you would like to embed your Studio video.
- In the Rich Content Editor toolbar, select either the App icon or select Tools-->Apps from the drop down menu.
- Select View All, then select Studio in the list.
- In the pop-up window, locate the video you wish to embed.
- Select the video and turn off the 'Display Media Tabs' option.
- Select the 'Embed Media' button at the bottom of this window.
- Now the video is embedded in your thread.
- Select the Reply or Post button.
